Getaway to Laknavaram Lake
People take holidays for various reasons! it could be
stress at work, break from daily routine, opportunity to spend quality time
with friends and family and unwind for some time to start afresh. However,
choosing a destination becomes an arduous task, so here is a destination that the
tourists can add to their bucket list.
Not too far away from Hyderabad is Laknavaram Lake
(also spelt as Lakhnavaram Lake) located in Govindaraopet Mandal, Mulugu
district about 70 kms away from Warangal. It’s an exceptional tourist spot with
scenic view away from the hustle bustle of the city. The history of this lake goes
back to 13th Century A.D during the reign of Kakatiya Dynasty when
it was expanded as a source of irrigation to the nearby villages. The
Laknavaram lake was formed by the convergence of three narrow valleys. The
surrounding hills act as natural barriers. The mystic beauty of the region and
tranquil blue water is so mesmerising that it can get tourists addicted to
visit the place again and again.
A very significant attraction of this region is the
suspension bridge. This bridge was built by the Telangana State Tourism
Development Corporation (TSTDC) with the purpose of providing access across the
lake. The lake is surrounded by
beautiful hills and greenery. The 1.8-meter-wide
suspension bridge has a 160-meter span and is made of steel cables to withstand
extreme weather including powerful winds and earthquakes.
The bridge leads to the Harita Hotel located on the
islands in the lake. All accommodation on the islands belong to the Telangana
Tourism. However, there is ample accommodation available outside the island also.
Some are at a distance of 4 kms, some are 10 kms away and more. Bookings can be
made online.
A number of activities are available for tourists at
the bridge, boating being the most favourite. Boats can be hired for a trip
under the bridge. For the tourists who like to indulge in a bit of adventure,
there is bungee jumping available. In the lake, one can also avail speed
boating, motor boating, kayaking, canoeing, rafting, zip lining, cycling,
camping and hiking.
Besides the Laknavaram Lake, other attractions around
the area are Ramappa Temple also known as the Rudeshwara temple (UNESCO World
Heritage site), Thousand pillar temple, Kakitya rock garden, kakitya musical
garden and Badrakali temple.
